A tour and symposium to mark the 150th anniversary of the first commercial oil well in North America.

The first field still operates, utilizing its original mode of production.  The region boasts a wealth of heritage assets, significant on a provincial, national and global scale.  The communitee is working as a public/private partnership to protet and to promote its heritage.

Conducted tours will be combined with specialist speakers and an open panel discussion of the heritage value, protection, recognition and other issues faced by this site.

Keynote Speaker is Professor Patrick Martin, Director of Graduate Studies, Michigan Technical University, and expert in International Industrial Heritage Designations.
