Professor Julio César Pérez Hernández will speak about a new Masterplan for Havana that a team of Cuban architects led by him conceived for 3,000,000 people aimed at preserving the city's historic, urban and architectural legacy and also at encouraging its future urban and economic development. The urban plan expresses the team's vision for the future while remaining true to its history, its people and its landscapes and it has a strong commitment to great urban design to give continuity to Havana's tradition and for seeking a contemporary image.

Professor César Pérez Hernández a Loeb Fellow at Harvard Graduate School of Design 2001-2002, has lectured widely in the US and Europe about Cuban architecture. He is a member of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba and the recipient of several international and national awards.

He is the local expert for the Havana Charrette (organized annually in April by the European Union of Architects). His writings have been published in the New York Times, Arquitectura Cuba and Arquitectura y Urbanismo. Julio Cesar Perez is the author of a major new book on Cuban architecture and culture by Taschen, "Inside Cuba"
