From Red House to Wychwood Park: Arts and Crafts Architecture in Britain and Canada

A lecture by Doug Brown, author of Eden Smith, Toronto

Place:
in Room 179, University College, University of Toronto Nearest access: Museum Station, Saint George Station
Date:
Monday, November 24
Time:
7:30 p.m.

From Issue No. 130 | November 06, 2008

This illustrated lecture explains the theories behind the Arts and Crafts Movement in Britain and moves on to show the influence these theories had on British architects and their work. Some of these architects and their pupils had a significant influence on the architectural scene in Canada, especially on the west coast and in Ontario and Quebec. Although information on Canadian Arts and Crafts architecture is scanty, the lecture tries to cover most of those in Canada who are generally described as Arts and Crafts.
