The 5th annual Festival of Architecture and Design (fAd) returns this May to celebrate a month in the life of Toronto design and designers. Explore design excellence through exhibitions, films, lectures, walking tours and social events.
For 2009, events include:
- Jane's Walk, a series of urban walking tours honouring the legacy of Jane Jacobs in 23 Canadian cities
- A sneak peak into 175 buildings across the city with Doors Open Toronto
- Twenty + Change biennial of emerging designers in architecture, landscape architecture and urban design
- A special architecture tour of the historical St. Lawrence Market
- The Junior League of Toronto makes over McLean House, updating their original interior designs from 26 years ago
- Toronto the Good party, E.R.A. Architects and Spacing Magazine's celebration of public spaces
- Project by A-Frame and The Ossington which features nightly projections of architectural photo
- Heritage Toronto Walks in the Junction, Rosedale, St. Clair West, Willow Dale, the Islands and a tour of the TD Centre Penthouse
- Photography exhibits through CONTACT Photography Festival, and by L.E. Glazer and the DK Photo Group
- A playful Toronto Sculpture Garden installation entitled Disco Fallout Shelter by Instant Coffee
- The Unusual Space, a cheeky installation invoking the 80s office interior at MADE
- Unbuilt Toronto Exhibition of unrealized buildings new and historical
- The Design Exchange's exciting lectures on the changing role of architecture, an exhibit of award-winning book designs and a screening of the documentary Helvetica
- Kevin Lamb of the National Botanic Garden of Wales speaking about public gardens of the future at the Toronto Botanical Garden
- Design shows by ACIDO, TSA, GTAA, Sheridan College, OCAD, Ontario Crafts Council, Harbourfront and studio junction
- A book launch for A Progressive Traditionalist: John M. Lyle
- Readings by Jack Diamond, Glenn Mcarthur and Witold Rybczynski at Harbourfront Centre
- Exploring the relationship between literature with art through LitCity: Toronto Through the Eyes of Authors and Artists
