Learn about the exciting archaeological exploration of pre-history
around Cootes Paradise. Admission to our open house events is included in regular day admission to RBG, and is free for members. Our program is presented through the collaborative efforts of archaeologists at University of
Toronto, Trent University and McMaster University.


The Cootes Paradise Archaeology and Cultural History Open House will delve into the fascinating archaeological work that is taking place in this area. Participants will learn about the human occupation around Cootes paradise
from the end of glaciations to the present, the significance of the sites, new discoveries, and new techniques in
archaeology.

Our schedule:
11:00 AM - 12:00 Noon: Hands-On Workshops - Rooms 3, 4 and 5, RBG Centre

See real artifacts and discuss archaeology with real archeologists! Four different stations will be available.


They will provide an introduction to the kinds of artifacts found at real sites in our area. These include stone artifacts and tools, bone tools and other artifacts, ceramics, and botanical materials.

12:00 Noon - 1:00 PM: Lunch and Archaeology Student Posters - Café Annex, RBG Centre

1:00 PM - 3:00 PM: Presentations on Local Archaeology - Rooms 1 & 2, RBG Centre

1:00 PM - 1:15 PM: 10,000 years in Paradise - Dr. David Galbraith, Royal Botanical Gardens

1:15 PM - 1:35 PM: The Occupation of Princess Point - Dr. Helen Haines, University of Toronto and Trent
