Architect Robert Mellin, who teaches at McGill University, Montreal, will read from his new book "Newfoundland Modern: Architecture in the Smallwood Years, 1949-1972", published by McGill-Queen's University Press.
Robert Mellin is a registered member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Architects and a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. He was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 2002. He is Past Chair of the board of directors of the Heritage Foundation of NL.
His book on the architecture of Tilting, Fogo Island ("Tilting: House Launching, Slide Hauling, Potato Trenching, and Other Tales from a Newfoundland Fishing Village"), published by Princeton Architectural Press in New York, won the Winterset Literary Award in 2003. He has received a Manning Award and eight Southcott Awards (from the Newfoundland Historic Trust) for his heritage conservation work.
