From Issue No. 224 | February 21, 2014

The first Anne of Green Gables movie disappeared not long after it was first seen in silent movie theatres in 1919.  Thanks to a decade-long search by two dedicated fans, a re-created version will be seen at the University of Faculty Club in Toronto on Thursday evening, March 6th, complete with live silent movie piano.  The Faculty Club is at 40 Willcocks Street.

Jack and Linda Hutton of Bala spent close to a decade chasing down movie stills from the long-lost silent movie before showing it in Prince Edward Island in 2008.  Linda does the narration; Jack, an international ragtime performer, plays piano background.

The evening is a fund-raiser for the University Women’s Club which is offering a dinner package for $60 (cocktails at 5:30; dinner at 6:30; silent movie presentation at 7:30).  The hour-long silent movie presentation by itself will be $20.
