To help celebrate the upcoming 40th anniversary of the Heritage Toronto Awards, Heritage Toronto will be hosting a free symposium in August looking back on heritage preservation in the city over the last 40 years.

Sean Fraser, Director of Heritage Programs and Operations for Ontario Heritage Trust, will moderate the discussion.

Panelists:

Catherine Nasmith, President of the Toronto chapter of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario and passionate advocate for the preservation of Toronto’s built heritage;

George Baird, former Dean of the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design at the University of Toronto and partner at Baird Sampson Neuert Architects;

Harold Madi, Director of Urban Design for the City of Toronto; and

Mike Yorke, President of Carpenters’ Union Local 27.

The symposium will look at successes and failures in the preservation of its heritage sites over the past 40 years, the challenges we face when it comes to preservation and conservation of heritage sites, and what we can learn from other cities.
