Queen's Park Views Protection: Community Consultation Meeting

Official Plan Amendment to Protect Views of the Ontario Legislative Assembly Building Proposal

Place:
Room 309 Metro Hall 55 John Street
Date:
Tuesday November 22, 2011
Time:
6:30 pm to 8:00 PM

From Issue No. 184 | November 14, 2011

The City of Toronto is proposing an Official Plan Amendment to protect views of the Ontario Legislative Assembly building. This may affect future applications to rezone lands for tall buildings located to the north of the building.

Purpose of the Meeting

The meeting will provide an opportunity for the community to have input on this project, view the plans and ask questions.

If you cannot attend the meeting, you can still make your views known by sending a fax (416) 392-1330 or by writing to Gregg Lintern, Director, Community Planning, Toronto and East York District, City Planning Division, 100 Queen St W Floor 18 E Toronto On, M5H 2N2.

If you would like further information about the proposal, please contact David Oikawa, Manager Community Planning, at (416) 394-8219, or by e-mail at doikawa@toronto.ca

You may also contact Councillor Adam Vaughan, Ward 20 at (416) 392-4044 or Councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam, Ward 27, at (416) 392-7903.
Notice to correspondents:

A copy of the Preliminary Report providing background information about this proposal can be found on the City’s website at:
http://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/mmis/2011/te/bgrd/backgroundfile-39895.pdf

Attendant Care Services can be made available with some advance notice.

Editors Notes: The City is to be congratulated for starting work on introducing protection for the silhouette of Queen's Park, however the current document only recommends protection from north of College Street. The Ontario Capital Precinct Working Group and the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario have been working with staff asking for the views from Queen Street and University Avenue and all points in between be studied in order to provide protection for the silhouette from further south. This is an issue that should concern all Ontarians, decisions made now will affect the symbols of our democracy forever.
