Professor Rob Van Hees is senior research scientist and coordinator of the Cultural Heritage at TNO The Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research and full Professor of Building Conservation at Delft University of TechnologyFaculty of Architecture (TU Delft). His main fields of interest are the durability of materials, conservation techniques and the compatibility of new and ancient materials. The MDDS-Monument Damage Diagnostic System is a decision support tool, as well as a knowledge based system. It describes and evaluates the state of conservation of historic buildings; analyses the origin of damage found; and plans conservation solutions/techniques, when necessary. MDDS is meant for professional organizations, asset managers, policy planners, and educators. His topic, Structural Recording Technologies for Engineers, is anticipated to be of great interest to all those interested and involved in the field of built-heritage conservation.
